An empty hooded cloak of grey wool stands in the dark, there is no face inside the hood, only blackness and a single eye looking at you

Every song breaks a rule

Basti Buster

He keeps a rulebook, and every one of his songs breaks a rule from it.

From the rulebook

You don’t do that

He collects sentences that start with “You don’t” and writes them in a book. Every song breaks one of them. Once a rule has fallen, it gets crossed out here.

Every one still stands

  1. No. 1 An artist has one genre.
  2. No. 2 You don’t mix German and English.
  3. No. 3 No Christmas songs before December.
  4. No. 4 Brass bands aren’t cool.
  5. No. 5 A song stays in its key.
  6. No. 6 Love songs are sad.
  7. No. 7 You stop while it’s at its best.
  8. No. 8 When the lights come on, you go home.
  9. No. 9 Whistling is not an instrument.
  10. No. 10 You don’t dance to sad lyrics.
  11. No. 11 Country comes from America.
  12. No. 12 You don’t go quiet in the middle of a song.
  13. No. 13 You don’t start what you won’t finish.
  14. No. 14 You don’t text your ex.
  15. No. 15 You don’t laugh at funerals.
  16. No. 16 Men don’t cry.
  17. No. 17 You don’t show up unannounced.
Close-up of the empty hood: in the blackness where a face should be, only a single open eye

About Basti

Basti Buster never decided which music he likes, so he makes all of it. Every album has its own theme and usually a different genre. He takes every genre seriously, just not the rules.

By day he is a tidy person with a calendar and a tax return. At night he cooks up his albums the way other people cook dinner: a different cuisine every time, but always done properly.

Instead of a face he shows a hood and an eye. The songs tell the rest.
